On January 14, 2007, The Congregational United Church of Christ joined The Community of Welcoming Congregations (CWC). We have been an open and affirming congregation of the United Churh of Christ since May 22, 1994. We have been a Just Peace congregation since 2005. By joining CWC we are in a more public way affirming our position on inclusivity and social justice.
On Sunday, January 14, 2007, The United Church of Christ hosted an interfaith-intercongregational service. The Rev. Tara Wilkins, representing the CWC spoke to those present on the importance of becomng welcoming communities and congregations. She spoke of Peter's vision of inclusivity and the wholeness of God's creation taking Acts 10: as her text.
David's message based partially on Psalm 36 also encouraged us to keep on loving one another with "welcoming hearts".
We shared this day with members of the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship and the Dharma Center, a newly formed Buddhist community in Klamath Falls which shares meeting space with the Unitarians. Also present were members of The Friends community and Peace Memorial Church.
Also present were members of the community who were called to visit as a result of our congregation's involvement in the protests recently held against the new policy shift in Iraq.
We are the Congregation United Church of Christ in Klamath Falls, Oregon. We are open and affirming. We are a Just Peace Church. We strive to become ever more multiethnic, and multicultural, accesible to all.
